Almost Born in a Studebaker

I was almost born in a Studebaker / I was almost born in a Studebaker

Santa Ana to Oceanside / foggy night, heck of a ride

I was almost born in a Studebaker

Ma’s big brother is behind the wheel / Dad’s overseas at the war, bad deal

Ma’s big brother is my Uncle Russell / Ma says “hustle, Russell hustle!

I can’t have G.A. in a Studebaker”

there’s the hospital / right over there

we make it there / five minutes to spare

Uncle Russell looks around the waiting room

then he sits down in a chair

starts talking to a guy who’s smoking

“how;s it going there, buddy?”

I was almost  born in a Studebaker / I was almost born in a Studebaker

Dad’s a sarge, Marine Corps / he gets home safe from the war

we all ride around in the Studebaker

we all ride around in the Studebaker

Studebaker Ponderosa

Uncle Russell had a color TV / the first one in the family

he lived in Santa Ana  ‘neath an acorn tree / Uncle Russell had a color TV

my Dad drove a green Studebaker / we’d drive to Uncle Russell’s through orange grove acres

past the Crow’s Nest bar and a church full of Quakers / my dad drove a green Studebaker

we’d watch Bonanza, eating apple pie / check out the blue in that Ponderosa sky!

Mom likes Hoss, he’s a likable guy / we’d watch Bonanza, eating apple pie

Studebaker Ponderosa / Studebaker Ponderosa

in Summertime Bonanza was re-runs / we’d drive to the beach and have a lot of fun

roast hot-dogs and stick ’em in buns / a green Studebaker and a setting sun

my Dad traded that Studebaker in / on a Plymouth Wagon with tall tail fins

now we’re into color TVs up to our chins / my Dad traded that Studebaker in

Studebaker Ponderosa / Studebaker Ponderosa
