Remembering

maybe you’re lugging your cello / off to school in a Santa Ana Wind

it’s messing up your hair and you’re wishing life was fair / and they’d let you play the violin

what are you remembering / is it some pretty little song

if you could only tell us please / we could all sing along

maybe you’re at a picnic table / on the shore of Lake Elsinore

Vin Scully on the transistor / Dodgers leading five to four

what are you remembering / is it some pretty little song

if you could only tell us please / we could all sing along

meanwhile it’s your anniversary / number fifty and we’re all here

you smile and call David ‘the fisherman’ / and Dad wipes away another tear

what are you remembering / is it some pretty little song

if you could only tell us please / we could all sing along

if you could only tell us please / we could all sing along

Retirement Day

on the day that I retire / I’ll whup the boss’s ass

like in the song by Johnny Cash / then go home and smoke some grass

don’t know where to score some grass / our neighbor can steer me

he reminds me of The Dude / in that movie The Big Lebowski

how much Dude? man

excuse me while I slide on down to Speedie Mart and score some Foster’s

on my last commute / please don’t let me wreck

don’t wanna be sitting on my deck / with a whip-lash collar neck

on the day that I retire / my blood pressure will go down

tweet tweet tweet tweet sha la la la la / birds’ll sing all over town

let’s hear it boys / now you girls / birds of the world

tweet tweet sha la la la la
